International film crews are increasingly attracted to Rhône-Alpes, and recent statistics confirm the region’s booming reputation as one of Europe’s most dynamic hubs for cinema and high-end TV series.
With its breathtaking diversity of landscapes, solid production infrastructure, highly skilled local crews and generous financial support, Rhône-Alpes offers every element needed for a successful shoot.

Spectacular Variety and Box-Office Impact

Rhône-Alpes combines majestic Alps, crystal-clear lakes, vibrant urban centers like Lyon, medieval villages, and lush rural settings — all within a compact, easily accessible area.
In 2024, 11 feature films shot in the region reached a total of 13.31 million cinema admissions, a sharp rise from 9.63 million admissions across 18 films the previous year.

The feel-good comedy “Un p’tit truc en plus”, filmed in the Vercors and Drôme, became a cultural phenomenon with 10.8 million tickets sold nationwide, ranking among France’s top box-office hits of the year.
Documentaries also perform strongly: “La Ferme des Bertrand”, produced locally, achieved 257,600 admissions, an exceptional figure for its category.

Strong Support and Proven Economic Impact

The Regional Film Fund supported 22 co-productions in 2024, resulting in a record 1,030 shooting days — up from 970 in 2023.

These shoots generated €38 million in economic benefits for the region (compared to €33.7 million the year before).

For every euro invested, feature films brought back 3.5 times their cost locally, while TV productions achieved an even greater impact — up to 30 times the funds initially committed.

Cutting-Edge Infrastructure and Accessibility

Lyon, the beating heart of the region, offers international airport access and high-speed rail connections.

Local studios provide modern sound stages, camera equipment, and post-production facilities that meet the highest European standards.

The workforce is experienced, bilingual, and accustomed to collaborating with international productions — drastically simplifying logistics, communication, and workflow for English-speaking crews.

A Welcoming and Film-Friendly Environment

Beyond statistics, international producers praise the efficiency and openness of local authorities.

The Rhône-Alpes Film Commission provides hands-on support for permits, scouting, casting, and accommodation, ensuring smooth production from planning to wrap.

Ongoing investment — €3 million for feature films and €2 million for TV in 2025 alone — confirms the region’s long-term commitment to audiovisual excellence.
